Threading is not such a well known method of eyebrow shaping, but it certainly has its advantages over conventional plucking or waxing. It's a middle eastern technique that doesn't cause spots or reactions and best of all, it's probably the least painful method!

Threading is a method of hair removal that goes back 100s of years. It's used to give clean and good shape to the eyebrows and hairs on the face. with minimum pain and irritation. Threading involves rolling twisted pure cotton threads over untidy eyebrows to 'pluck' the hair. This pulls out a whole row of hair unlike the tweezing of individual hairs.

The results of hair threading usually lasts 2-3 weeks, depending on your own growth cycle of course. Another advantage is that it does not traumatize or damage the skin. Because of this, it also does not cause break outs or redness. It sounds great doesn't it?! So where can you have it done?

Choosing the right beauty salon

Although threading may seem quite simple, requires certain amount of skill to ensure hairs are plucked from their roots. You should take care in choosing the right beauty salon for your threading session, and research where the best place for threading is in your area. Make sure you have a consultation with the beautician so you can clearly outline what shape and thickness you desire. Good beauty salons use 100% cotton threads, which reduces skin trauma and redness.

Not just for eyebrows!

Fortunately, threading can be used to remove hair anywhere on your face including behind the lip and the chin. Prices will vary from salon to salon, but it's not impossible to find a reputable beautician who'll thread your entire face for $15/£10. Bargain, huh?

Though, as with anything, threading has its pros and cons. Here's a quick outline of them:

Pros

  • No breakouts, or irritation
  • Relatively slow growth
  • Can cost little
  • Any desired length/thickness/shape (within reason!) can be given

Cons

  • If done poorly, it can cause problems
  • Can be hard to find a salon that actually provide this service

The pros definitely weigh out the cons so go on and find a salon near you. Though, a word of caution: you may never want to wax or pluck again!
